Now, I fully realize I am not a guy! BUT I asked all the men in my life to make me a list of all their must-have vacation essentials! They willingly complied, and to my surprise, the lists were nearly identical. I merged the lists and created the ultimate packing list just for you.
Vacation Essentials for Men: Travel Documents
It’s extremely important that you pack all your necessary travel documents! In fact, it’s so important that I created an entire post on the subject. You’ll want to take some time to read The Plight of Travel Documentation and make use of the resources I have linked there for you.
Additionally, you’ll want to read my post Basic Safety for all Travelers. If you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to reading the entire post, just read the “Making copies of important documents” section as well as the “Cyber safety for all travelers” section. Those sections will help you pack light and protect your sensitive information while on the go.
Vacation Essentials for Men: Electronics
When it comes to electronics, there are a few things you really need to consider packing. The top priority here should always be your cell phone and your cell phone charger. You never know when you may need to call for help!
If your itinerary includes hiking or backpacking, you really need to pack a satellite communication device for safety reasons. You can read more about that in my Basic Safety for all Travelers post under the “Satellite Communication” section.
You may also want to consider packing your laptop and laptop charger. While it isn’t essential for all men, it is essential for some. Just make sure you have a proper travel case for your laptop to keep it safe during transport.
Vacation Essentials for Men: Clothes
Selecting the appropriate attire for your vacation can be quite challenging. It is essential to opt for garments that enable you to travel light, appear stylish, and remain comfortable during your trip.
You’ll also need to assess your itinerary to determine the appropriate garments to pack based on your planned activities. For example, the clothes you pack for a weekend at the beach will be totally different than the clothes you pack for a weekend exploring caves.
Furthermore, you’ll need to take into consideration the weather forecast of your intended destination.
Below is a basic list of clothing items you should pack!
- 5 pairs of underwear
- 5 pairs of socks (moisture wicking)
- 3 t-shirts
- 1 reversible tank top (light weight, moisture wicking, athletic style)
- 1 long sleeve shirt
- 1 pair of hiking pants (convertible, light weight, quick dry, dual purpose with detachable legs)
- 1 pair of joggers (light and packable)
- 1 pair of jeans (comfortable, flexible, relaxed fit, travel friendly)
- Pajamas
- 1 pair of athletic shoes (dual purpose for running, hiking, etcetera)
- 1 pair of sandals or flip flops
Below are some optional clothing items you may need!
- Swimming trunks
- 1 pair of dress pants
- 1 dress shirt
- 1 pair of dress socks
- 1 pair of dress shoes
- 1 reversible belt
- Lightweight packable puffer jacket
- Travel beanie
- Ultralight waterproof rain poncho
- 1 pair of boots (activity appropriate)
PRO TIP! Dual-purpose clothing items and reversible clothing items will help you travel light and still have all the garments you need!
Vacation Essentials for Men: Toiletries
There are a variety of options when it comes to packing toiletries from basic organizers to hanging bags with multiple compartments. Below are some examples!
Ensuring you have all the essential hygiene products is crucial, regardless of which toiletry bag suits your needs. Here are the items you should always remember to pack!
- Mouthwash
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Floss picks
- Deodorant
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Hairbrush/Comb
- Q-tips
- Soap/Bodywash
- Travel Razor (electric shaver for travel)
- Cologne
- DUDE Wipes
Additional toiletries that may be necessary!
- Leak proof denture cup
- Denture tablets
- Denture brush
- Denture cream

Vacation Essentials for Men: Health and Wellness
It is crucial to maintain your regular health and wellness regimen while traveling. Remember to bring along your prescription medications, your OTC medications, and any vitamins you take to ensure continuity in your routine.
Additionally, you’ll need to bring along a first aid kit just in case you need it! It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
Furthermore, you’ll want to bring along any eye care items. If you have vision limitations, you’ll want to make sure you have your glasses and a hard case to put them in when they’re not in use. Additionally, take along a basic eye glass repair kit as well as something to clean them with. These lens cleaning wipes will get the job done!
If you wear contacts, make sure you don’t forget your contact care kit. I highly recommend this dual-purpose travel case that carries both your glasses and contacts. I fully realize the featured design is a bit girly, but there are solid colors available!
Last but definitely not least, you need to make sure you pack protection. No, not your sidearm! The other kind of protection. If you are sexually active, you’ll need to pack accordingly!
