Where are all my history lovers? If you haven’t had a chance to visit the George Washington Carver National Monument, you should make time because this place is well worth it. Our spontaneous stop to stretch our legs turned out to be both educational and relaxing.

Carver Trail

We began by walking the 3/4 mile Carver Trail. Along the way we were blessed with the serenity of nature and a trip back in time. It is an easy trail by all means, and you certainly shouldn’t let mobility issues stop you! In fact, benches are conveniently placed along the trail should you need to rest or just want to enjoy sitting in nature for a while. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

The wooden walkways make crossing streams and uneven ground a breeze! The railings intended for your safety combine with nature to make a nice backdrop for photos! Learn more about the conditions and accessibility of Carver Trail here.

George Washington Carver’s Childhood Home

George Washington Carver’s childhood home sits in a most tranquil location amongst trees, streams, and prairie. Certainly befitting of a man whose love for nature and desire to learn led to indispensable advancements in agriculture. We have all, in one way or another, benefited from this great man’s work! Want to learn more? Here’s some in depth information on George Washington Carver from the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

Inside you’ll be blessed with a scene from the late 1800’s. A fireplace as a heat source, old hard wood floors, that CEILING OMG, and a rocking chair in the corner! Ever wonder what it was like to live back then?

You’ll certainly want to pay attention to the presentations on the wall. Some very interesting history there! My favorite was the old land grant. The land descriptions back then were so simple when compared to land descriptions today.

Additionally, the farmer in me found the summary of their livestock and produce fascinating!

Moses Carver Family Cemetery

Do you like cemeteries? I sure do! I spent way too much time here, and I applaud my husband’s patience. Only about half the graves have markers with details inscribed on them. Among those resting here are Moses and Susan Carver.

In the summer of 2022, restoration of the rock wall surrounding the cemetery began. Can you imagine moving and resetting all those rocks? You can read more about the restoration of the wall surrounding Moses Carver Family Cemetery here.
